Fabio Mauri

Fabio Mauri (born April 1, 1926 in Rome ; † May 19, 2009 ibid) was an Italian visual artist and film writer .

life and work

Fabio Mauri was born to Maria Luisa Bompiani and Umberto Mauri. He was the nephew of Valentino Bompiani and the brother of Silvana Mauri. Fabio Mauri grew up in an environment of writers and painters, in which Luigi Pirandello , Filippo De Pisis and Alberto Savinio also moved. Elisabetta Catalano was his partner. Fabio Mauri worked as an artist, playwright, publisher and painter.

In 1942 Mauri founded the literary magazine "Il Setaccio" together with Pier Paolo Pasolini . Mauri worked for the Bompiani publishing house in Rome and Milan from 1944 to 1975 , becoming its director and vice-president in the 1950s. In 1967 he founded the magazine "Quindici" with Umberto Eco , Edoardo Sanguineti and others. In 1979 Mauri was appointed professor at the Accademia di belle arti dell'Aquila and held this position until 2001. In 1983 he became President of Messaggerie Italiane .

Fabio Mauri was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2009 .
