Fabio Metelli
Fabio Metelli (born June 10, 1907 in Trieste ; † January 22, 1987 in Padua ) was an Italian psychologist and, along with Gaetano Kanizsa and their two teachers Cesare Musatti, is one of the most well-known representatives of Gestalt theory in Italy. From 1943 to 1973 he was director of the Psychological Institute at the University of Padua . His scientific work in the field of perceptual psychology is still one of the standard works in this research field. His best-known contribution is that of mathematizing the laws of the perception of transparency . It appeared in 1974 under the title The Perception of Transparency in the journal Scientific American (Volume 230, pp. 90-98) and brought Metelli beyond Italy resonance and recognition on an international level.
