The Dortmund University of Applied Sciences library is a central operating unit of the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences . It is a publicly accessible, scientific library with very limited archive functions . It is intended to support teaching and further education as well as application research in the procurement and provision of relevant information, teaching materials and scientific literature.

Locations
The Dortmund University of Applied Sciences library consists of three locations.
Location Emil-Figge-Strasse 44
This location is on the campus of the Technical University of Dortmund . This is where the applied social sciences , architecture , IT and economics departments of the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences are housed. In addition, the library administration is here, i. H. the management of the university library, acquisition and cataloging .
In 2012, an extensive expansion was carried out at this location. The library area was more than doubled and the “Architecture” library was incorporated.
Sonnenstrasse location
This location is at Sonnenstrasse 96-100 in Dortmund's Kreuzviertel . It provides students and teachers in the information and electrical engineering and mechanical engineering departments with literature and services.
Minor renovations in 2012 and 2015 reduced the quality of this location, e.g. B. by reducing the noise pollution in the learning area, increased. An extensive structural redesign of the entrance area of the library followed in 2016.
Location Max-Ophüls-Platz
This location is part of the design department and is located on the edge of Dortmund city center at Max-Ophüls-Platz 2.
An expansion, renovation and refurbishment of the location was completed in 2014.

Media lending
- Media lending is one of the most important and elementary services . Media can be borrowed free of charge at all three locations with a valid library card from the university library . There are also magazines that are largely bound and archived.
The Emil-Figge and Sonnenstrasse locations have self -check-out terminals .

Literature search and databases
- Comprehensive electronic specialist databases can be accessed in the university network. The entire holdings of the university library can be researched at any time using an electronic library catalog . A literature search engine , a discovery system from EBSCO , has enabled simultaneous research both in the library holdings and in scientific publications from specialist databases or the Internet since spring 2018.

Electronic interlibrary loan
- Books or journal articles that are not in the holdings of the university library or another Dortmund library can be researched in DigiBib and conveniently ordered from there via interlibrary loan to a location.

Training and information literacy
- The Dortmund University of Applied Sciences offers general library tours at the beginning of each semester and upon request. In addition, training courses in researching literature in the library catalog and in general and subject-specific databases are offered.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is used to post and secure media at all three locations .
The library of the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences is a training facility for the profession of “ specialist for media and information services ”.
