Mechanical engineering student council
The Fachschaftentagung Maschinenbau , FaTaMa for short , is the federal student representatives meeting of the mechanical engineering - student councils in German-speaking countries . It represents these vis-à-vis supraregional institutions such as the University Rectors' Conference (HRK) and the Faculty Day Mechanical and Process Engineering (FTMV).
About FaTaMa
composition
FaTaMa is made up of representatives from the mechanical engineering and process engineering faculties in German-speaking countries, most of whom are also active in the student councils of the respective student councils. This also includes the chemical engineering and bioprocess engineering / bioengineering departments of both technical colleges and universities .
tasks
In addition to representing the interests of mechanical engineering students, FaTaMa also serves to maintain contacts between the mechanical engineering student councils.
FaTaMa is the unofficial successor to the Fachverband Maschinenbau eV (FVMB) , which had existed as a specialist association in what was then the Association of German Student Unions since 1953 .
FaTaMa working groups
The following working groups come together (more or less regularly):
Appointment Committees
The working group of the appointment commissions was founded at the FaTaMa in Cottbus and is still in its infancy. The working group is based on the appointment committee reader “Professions, but correct!” For student members in Axel Köhler's appointment committees.
Bachelor / Master
The Bachelor / Master working group deals with the establishment of the Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and the Master’s degree programs based on it .
Attention is paid to compliance with the guidelines of the Bologna process including the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and a meaningful implementation of a consecutive course structure.
The aim is to introduce a Bachelor / Master model that is as uniform as possible at the individual universities, which simplifies the change between universities and increases comparability.
Technology reflection, technology assessment and sustainability
The topic of technical reflection was discussed and promoted at the past conferences, as it should constitute an important aspect in the daily life of an engineer. An engineer should always be aware of the consequences of his actions and include the effects of technology on the environment (ethical principles, nature, noise, erosion, politics, economy, etc.) in his considerations.
FIT - women in technology
This working group discusses the question of why so few women are enthusiastic about technology, how to deal with it and whether any measures need to be taken.
Networking
Working group with the topic of networking the individual mechanical engineering faculties in order to achieve better communication with one another.
Date and place of the conference
German-speaking student council conference in mechanical engineering
Since 2003, the mechanical engineering student council has been taking place at various locations in German-speaking countries. The FaTaMa took place between 2003 and the seventh FaTaMa in November 2006 in the summer and winter semesters. An annual cycle has been introduced since 2007. The conference location and date are usually set at the previous FaTaMa.

International student council conference in mechanical engineering
After the first InFaTa (International Student Representatives Conference in Mechanical Engineering) was held in Braunschweig in autumn 1998 and the project temporarily failed, the second English-language, international FaTaMa took place in Vienna in 2012, to which student councils from all over Europe were invited. The name of this conference is EMESCC - european mechanical engineering student council congress.
