Altenhoferstr. 3 during restoration (2009)

The half-timbered house at Altenhoferstraße 3 is the oldest residential building in Bodelshausen in the Tübingen district . It was placed under monument protection in 2007.

Building description

It is a gable - independent two-story house with a gable roof , which was built in a multi - storey construction. It stands on a slope and has two vaulted cellars on the street side, with the eastern cellar with a barrel vault parallel to the first, dating from the time of construction and accessible from the street at ground level. From here there was access to the western vaulted cellar.

The construction time can be determined dendrochronologically as 1484. Originally this building was free-standing.

As is typical of the time, the upper floors projected from the gables and were supported by cleats . These projections are difficult to recognize today due to later processing and modifications. The access was apparently from the beginning from the north-western eaves side. A staircase leads to the first floor, the living area. The rooms were accessed through a corridor that went across the width of the house across the direction of the ridge. On the walls of the corridor, a baroque, ornamental lime plaster painting with writing fields (probably sayings; only individual words are legible) was exposed. The room has its arched plank beam ceiling from the construction period. Of the room a small Baroque closes with wooden partition and low doorway Täferstube a bedchamber probably - (1694d) to.

Single finds

During the restoration of the rear vaulted cellar, so-called afterbirth pots were found: several standing pots with handles buried in the rammed earth floor, some of which still had their knob lids. There were remains of organic matter in the pots. Because of the ceramics, it seems possible that the rear cellar was constructed at the same time as the construction work on the upper floor (paneling room, plasterwork in the corridor).

A number of small finds from the 15th to 17th centuries were discovered in the intermediate floor and wall panels, for example apothecary bottles made of greenish forest glass .
