history
In the 13th century, the Dougalston lands belonged to the Graham family . John de Graham , fighting alongside William Wallace , fell in 1298 at the Battle of Falkirk . In 1767 the tobacco industrialist John Glassford bought the land, which was one of the richest Scots at the time. Glassford, who ran two bleaching plants in Milngavie, built Factor's House in the 18th century. With the nearby pigeon tower , a category B structure, two listed structures of Glassford in Milngavie are still preserved today.
In 2003 the restoration of Factor's House with an extension and an extension of the access road was approved. The extension of the driveway, as well as the construction and installation of a pond, a bridge and an access gate were approved in 2005 subject to conditions. However, the construction of a new building on the property was rejected in 2009.
