The Faena Arts Center is a cultural center in Puerto Madero , a former port area in Buenos Aires , Argentina .

Building history

The cultural center is located in a building of one of the first large flour mills in Argentina, the Molinos de la Plata . After the relocation of the port and the decline of the port area, Puerto Madero has been developed since the late 1980s and is now one of the sought-after areas for residential, office and entertainment uses in the Argentine capital.

The old machine house of the grain mill was gutted and, after being converted into modern exhibition rooms with over 4000 m², opened in September 2011 with an exhibition of works by the Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto .

Faena Prize for the Arts

The cultural center has been awarding the Faena Prize for the Arts since 2012 .

  • The first winner was the Argentine artist Franco Dario Vico .
  • The 2015 award winner was the artist Cayetano Ferrer with the installation Cinema Architecture .
