Fafila

Fafila (Spanish: Favila) († 739 ) was the son of the first king (or prince) of Asturias , Pelayo , and was his successor in 737 after the death of his father. He built the church of Santa Cruz de Cangas de Onís in the then capital of the empire, Cangas de Onís , whose dedicatory inscription from 737 has been preserved. There Fafila's wife Froiliuba and children of the king not named are mentioned. According to Asturian chroniclers , Fafila was killed by a bear while hunting. Apparently, after his death, no male descendants of Pelayo were alive or underage; therefore Alfonso I , Pelayo's son-in-law, came to power in 739 . The trustworthy sources do not provide any details about Fafila's children and their fate.
