Fagel (regent family)

Fagel is the name of a former Dutch regent family (city regents), whose members belonged to the nobility and patriciate .

The oldest known family member lived in Flanders . In 1583 the merchant François Fagel moved from Antwerp to Amsterdam . In the period of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, various family members provided a number of city politicians and various statesmen and generals loyal to the House of Orange . François Nicolaas Fagel was appointed baron of the Holy Roman Empire in 1703, he died without leaving any descendants or heirs. In the 19th century, the family was accepted into the new Dutch nobility with the title Baron . In 1940 the Fagel family died out.

Miscellaneous

For a long time the Fagel family was in the possession of the Griffier Office (in German: court clerk or registrar ) of the Dutch Republic. In addition to Gaspar (1670–1672) and Hendrik Fagel (1672–1690), Hendrik's son François Fagel should be mentioned, who called this office between the years 1690–1744. He was followed by his nephew Hendrik Fagel (1744–1790). His grandson of the same name held the grip until 1794.
