Gaspar Fagel

Gaspar Fagel (born January 25, 1634 in The Hague , † December 15, 1688 ) was a Dutch statesman and councilor .

Life

Fagel came from a noble patrician family and was elected pensioner in Haarlem in 1663 . In 1667 he worked together with Johan de Witt , Andries de Graeff and Gillis Valckenier in the preparation and implementation of the Eeuwig edicts ( decree of the century), which was to end the Orange governorship for all time. In 1670 he became Secretary ( Griffier ) of the States General and in 1672, after de Johan de Witt's abdication on the day before his assassination, he became a board member of Holland .

He was an advisor to the governor of the Netherlands Wilhelm III. in his fight against the King of France, Louis XIV. On his drive Wilhelm III was. on June 28, 1672 the hereditary governor of the Netherlands was transferred. He also supported him in the Glorious Revolution , which Wilhelm III. made King of England.

His nephew was the Lieutenant Field Marshal of the Habsburg Netherlands Baron François Nicolaas Fagel .
