Albrecht van Loo (* around 1472 in The Hague ; † January 5, 1525 there ) was a Dutch politician.

biography

Albrecht van Loo was born the son of Dordrecht pensioner Albrecht van Loo and Dieuwertje van Egmond van Cranenburch . He was married to Maria Zwinters, a daughter of Pieter Zwinters and Catharina Borre van Amerongen. Their son Gerrit van Loo became grietman of Het Bildt and councilor and rentmaster of Friesland .

Albrecht van Loo studied at the Catholic universities of Leuven and Orléans . From 1505 he held the office of city judge in Dordrecht. At the Hof van Holland , Zeeland en West-Friesland, he was deputy secretary between 1505 and 1508 and councilor between 1510 and 1513; and again between the years 1515 and 1524. In 1513 he was entrusted with the highest government office in Holland, the office of state lawyer. He held this office until 1524. The Dutch city governments saw his two high offices, the function of the state advocate of Holland and the office of councilor at the Hof van Holland, as incompatible and increasingly criticized him. But van Loo was able to hold power in his hands until shortly before his death in 1525.
