Pieter Steyn

Pieter Steyn (born October 6, 1706 in Haarlem , † November 5, 1772 in The Hague ) served as the Dutch councilor between 1749 and 1772 .

Steyn was the son of the mayor of Haarlem Adriaan Steyn and his wife Johanna Patijn. Between the years 1724 and 1726 he studied law at the University of Leiden . He married twice, but both marriages remained childless. As a council pensioner he had a long term; in this he was able to keep the Republic of the United Netherlands out of the Seven Years' War .
