Simon van Slingelandt

Simon van Slingelandt , Herr von Patijnenburg , (born January 14, 1664 in Dordrecht ; † December 1, 1736 in The Hague ) was an important Dutch politician, and between the years 1727 and 1736 he held the title of councilor of Holland . He came from one of the leading rulers of Holland, the Van Slingelandt .

Biographical

As the son of the influential aristocrat Govert van Slingelandt , lord of Dubbeldam (a district of Rotterdam on an island) (1623–1690), retiree of the city of Rotterdam and ambassador to Prussia , Sweden , Poland and Denmark , Simon came to terms with the political situation early on of the land in touch.

In the period before his appointment as the highest government official in his country, Van Slingelandt wrote various reports for the Dutch National Assembly ( Tweede Grote Vergadering ). His aim was to help the so-called State Council ( Raad van State ) to gain more power within the republic.

When he was appointed councilor in 1727, he found himself in the midst of the leading Dutch politicians. Van Slingelandt was, like his most important predecessors in office, Johan van Oldenbarnevelt and Johan de Witt , a die-hard Republican . His political goal was to once again exclude the Orange governors from Dutch / Dutch politics. Van Slingelandt also sought a Dutch alliance with Great Britain and acted as a peace broker between Austria and Great Britain and between Austria and France in 1736. Simon van Slingelandt held the leading political office of pensioner until the day of his death on December 1, 1736.

Simon van Slingelandt, Master of Laws , was married to Susanna de Wildt (1666–1722) and then to his housewife Johanna Margaretha van Coesvelt (1726–1736).
