Aert van der Goes

Aert van der Goes (* 1475 in Delft ; † November 1, 1545 ibid) was a Dutch politician.

biography

Aert van der Goes was born as the son of Witte van der Goes. This was a descendant of the Delft patrician family of van der Goes . He was married to Barbara van Herwijnen and then to Margaretha van Banchem. The son of the same name, Aert van der Goes, was born from the first marriage. He became an advocate at the Great Council of Mechelen . His second marriage came Adriaen van der Goes , who succeeded him as Dutch country lawyer was, and a daughter, Genevieve. She married Everhard Nicolai, who later became President of the Great Council of Mechelen.

Aert van der Goes studied at the University of Leuven . Afterwards he settled as a lawyer in his hometown and in 1508 was appointed pensioner in Delft . In 1525 he resigned from this office in order to be appointed as the new state advocate by the states of Holland after moving to The Hague . Van der Goes began to write a paper on the procedures at the assemblies of the Dutch States General. This work was continued by his son Adriaen and published in 1750 under the title Register van de Dachvaerden of the Staten's Lands van Holland . He held the office of Dutch state lawyer until shortly before his death.
