George William Brown
George William Brown (born May 30, 1860 in Holstein , Ontario , † February 17, 1919 in Regina ) was a Canadian politician and lawyer . From 1910 to 1915 he was Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Province .
biography
Brown studied law at the University of Toronto . In 1882 he moved to what was then the Northwest Territories and settled a little outside of Regina , where he initially worked as a farmer . In 1889 he opened a law firm in Regina. In 1894 he was elected as a Liberal candidate to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories . He was re-elected twice until he finally had to resign in 1903 for health reasons.
Brown invested in extensive properties that he had bought from the local Métis and made a large profit. His law firm was one of the most prestigious in Regina, which is why he was on several boards of directors of local companies. At the direction of his friend Thomas Walter Scott, Governor General Lord Gray Brown sworn in as Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan on October 14, 1910. He held this representative office until October 17, 1915.
