Reginald John Marsden Parker (born February 7, 1881 in Liskeard , Cornwall , England , † March 23, 1948 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) was a Canadian politician ( Saskatchewan Liberal Party ) and farmer . From 1945 to 1948 he was Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Province.

biography

Parker emigrated to Canada in 1898 and initially worked as a farm worker until he set up his own farm in the village of Togo in what was then the Northwest Territories . He became interested in local politics and was elected to the Cote parish council in 1904, and from 1906 to 1932 he was mayor of this rural parish. As a candidate for the Saskatchewan Liberal Party , he entered the 1929 elections to the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly and was successful in the Pelly constituency.

After the Liberals won the 1934 elections, Parker served as Minister for Community Affairs in James Garfield Gardiner's cabinet . He held this office for ten years, until the election victory of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation in 1944. Governor General Lord Athlone swore in Parker on June 22, 1945 as Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. He held this representative office until his death.
