Cameron Irwin McIntosh (born July 1, 1926 in North Battleford , Saskatchewan , † September 24, 1988 ) was a Canadian publisher . From 1978 to 1983 he was Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Province.

biography

The son of Liberal House of Commons Cameron Ross McIntosh graduated from the University of Saskatchewan . In 1952 he took over the management of McIntosh Publishing from his father , which published various newspapers. Governor General Jules Léger swore him in on February 22, 1978 as Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.

At the start of his tenure, McIntosh caused controversy when he publicly advocated the death penalty and was heavily criticized for it by Allan Blakeney . The strained relationship with the provincial government improved again when he took an active part in organizing the 75th anniversary of Saskatchewan. In 1980 he reopened Government House (the seat of the Vice Governor), which had been closed in 1944 to save money. Since then, the building has been used for ceremonial purposes again, but not as a residence. McIntosh remained in office until July 6, 1983.
