Stephen Worobetz

Stephen Worobetz , OC , MC , SOM (born December 26, 1914 in Krydor , Saskatchewan , † February 2, 2006 ) was a Canadian doctor . From 1970 to 1976 he was Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Province.

biography

Descended from Ukrainian immigrants, Worobetz studied medicine at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg . During World War II , he served as a medical officer in the Canadian Army in Italy and was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery on the front lines . After the war he worked as a family doctor in Saskatoon and carried out post-graduate studies in surgery in Winnipeg and Philadelphia .

Governor General Roland Michener swore in Worobetz on February 2, 1970 as Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. He held this representative office until February 29, 1976. He then worked as a doctor again until his retirement in 1982. In 1993 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Saskatchewan and the Order of Canada , and in 1999 the Saskatchewan Order of Merit .
