Starland Ballroom
The Starland Ballroom is a concert venue in Sayreville , New Jersey . The opening night was on December 6, 2003. Van Halen singer David Lee Roth played at the concert . In the early 1980s and 1990s the concert hall was called the Hunka Bunka Ballroom and was a dance club. During the 1990s punk and ska concerts were sometimes held there.
In the first year, from 2003 to 2004, the Starland sold over 150,000 tickets for concerts. Due to the rapid sales, the Starland became one of the ten largest concert halls in the world. Over 75 world-famous bands and musicians have already played in the Starland.
The following year the Starland even sold more than 200,000 tickets. According to Pollstar Magazine, the Starland even rose to the fourth place in the world's 10 largest music nightclubs. Within five years, more than three quarters of a million tickets have been sold.
In August 2004 Coheed and Cambria recorded a concert at Starland and released that concert on the DVD Coheed And Cambria: Live At Starland Ballroom . Bands like God Forbid , Anthrax and Clutch also recorded concerts in Starland, which they released. Other bands such as My Chemical Romance , Taking Back Sunday and The Starting Line also recorded their concerts there, but not to release them on DVD, but only to broadcast their performances on MTV and Fuse.
In January 2005 the Starland organized a two-day concert, the proceeds of which should go to the victims of the flood disaster. A total of 150,000 US dollars were donated to UNICEF and the International Red Cross . In September Coheed and Cambria gave a concert, the proceeds of which they donated to hurricane victims in New Orleans .
In 2007 the Starland was bought by AEG Live New Jersey. AEG Live New Jersey already has several festivals held in the New Jersey area.
In June 2008 the film The Perfect Age Of Rock And Roll was shot in Starland, among other places , where the club scenes were recorded. The film was released in 2009.
