Adriaen van der Goes

Adriaen van der Goes (* around 1505 in Delft ; † November 5, 1560 in The Hague ) was the most important Dutch official between the years 1544 and 1560 as Holland's advocate .

biography

Adriaen van der Goes was born as the son of the Dutch lawyer Aert van der Goes , descendant of the Delft patrician family van der Goes , and Margaretha van Banchem. He was married to Anna van Spangen, who died in 1548. Her sons Christiaan, Aert, Andries and Philip van der Goes held higher state offices. Van der Goes probably studied at the University of Leuven .

In 1540 his father Aert attracted him as a political supporter. On the recommendation of René van Chalon , Adriaen van der Goes was appointed the new state advocate on January 30, 1544 by the states of Holland . He held this office until his death in 1560. Van der Goes continued his father's work Register van de Dachvaerden of the Statens's Lands van Holland . This work was finally published in 1750.
