The mobile library in the Ostholstein district takes on the media supply for the rural population of Ostholstein. Every 3 weeks, it stops at 132 stops in 22 municipalities and reaches around 40,000 residents.

history

The decision of the district council to found a mobile library was made in July 1980. After numerous test drives to determine suitable routes, the mobile library began its service on January 5, 1981. Initially 13 municipalities were served, at the end of 2016 there were 22 municipalities.

The book magazine was initially located in the former Kavaliershaus in Stolbergstraße in Eutin , but the book bus garage was in Benz in the neighboring community of Malente . It wasn't until 1991 that both were brought together in a former potato warehouse on Waldstrasse in Eutin.

The first vehicle was a Setra-Kässbohrer bus . In 1993 a Volvo bus followed, again as a conversion by the Kässbohrer company. A Makoben Volvo truck has been in use since April 2012.
