Fairlight (group)

Fairlight (abbreviation FLT) is a warez and cracker group that has been active since spring 1987 and had its origins on the Commodore 64. This group emerged from another C64 group called " West Coast Crackers " (WCC). With "West Coast" was meant the west coast of Sweden. So Fairlight was originally a purely Swedish group and later developed into an international organization. Mainly the group started with cracking C64 games and exchanging various cracked games. Since the beginning of the grouping legal demos have been created on the C64 and the Amiga by Fairlight. At the beginning of 2000 the "official", legal demosection of FLT for the PC was created.

These sections work largely independently, but they are all intensively networked with one another.

Like many other warez groups, Fairlight includes crackers , coders and so-called suppliers . These suppliers deliver the games to the group. For example, some of them work for game magazines and can therefore make the games available for download long before they are released .

history

Fairlight was founded on April 17th, 1987 by "Strider", "Black Shadow" and "Gollum" after the West Coast Crackers split up into the groups Relax and Fairlight .

The " Operation Fastlink " was planned months in advance by various law enforcement agencies and carried out on April 21 and 22, 2004. This operation was directed against, among others, Fairlight and its subsections.

At the end of April 2008, the US press was informed that the incumbent Chairman of the Republican Party in California, Tony Krvaric , was involved in founding the group in the 1980s under the pseudonym "Strider".
