Razor 1911 is a warez and demo group with a story similar to Fairlight . According to the US Department of Justice, Razor is the oldest game software piracy ring on the Internet in 1911.

The group was originally founded under the name "Razor 2992" by Doctor No, Insane TTM and Sector9 in October 1985 in Norway as a Commodore 64 software cracking group. The number behind Razor should distinguish it from other groups that might also choose the name Razor. Shortly afterwards they changed 2992 to 1911 to give the number a meaning. “1911” translates as “777” in the hexadecimal system , which was intended to stand out from the others who used the number 666 in an inflationary way. Over the years the group has split several times, but has always been able to gain new members.

The group is still active today, for example they published Warez from Duke Nukem Forever , Crysis , The Sims 3 , Prototype , Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood , Far Cry 2 , Grand Theft Auto IV , Anno 1404 , FIFA 2010 , Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , BioShock 2 , Metro 2033 , and Mass Effect 2 and was the first cracker group to provide a working crack for the game Gothic 3 . Furthermore, they succeeded in creating a crack for the game The Settlers 7 with the new copy protection from Ubisoft, which was released in spring 2010. At the Revision 2011 demo party , Razor won second place in the “PC 64K Intro” category in 1911 for the “We Have Accidently Borrowed Your Votedisk” demo.

On December 6, 2010, Razor 1911 announced that it would set up a mirror server for WikiLeaks .

Operation Buccaneer

The operation Buccaneer , an undercover action by the US Customs Service, led in this group convictions.

In 2003, 31-year-old Shane E. Pitman (Pitbull) was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

In 2004, 38-year-old Sean Michael Breen, also a member of this group, was sentenced to 50 months in prison and an additional three years on probation . He was also required to pay Cisco Systems approximately $ 690,000 in compensation . Breen had forged hardware orders on behalf of Cisco customers and had them delivered to an address where he and an accomplice would take them and then sell the devices on at low prices.
