Faisal al-Miqdad

Faisal Mekdad

Faisal al-Miqdad or Mekdad ( Arabic فيصل المقداد, DMG Faiṣal al-Miqdād ; * 1954 in the Daraa district ) is Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister .

Al-Miqdad studied English literature at the University of Damascus and graduated in 1978 with an academic degree ( idschāza  /إجازة, French license ). In 1993 he received a doctorate in English literature from Charles University in Prague . In 1994 al-Miqdad embarked on a diplomatic career. In 1995 he became a member of the Syrian delegation of the United Nations , where he represented Syria in the UN Security Council . In 2003, al-Miqdad was appointed permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations.

In February 2006, Syria's President Bashar al-Assad al-Miqdad appointed Deputy Foreign Minister. Al-Miqdad represented Syria at the Middle East Conference in Annapolis in November 2007 and expressed optimism in a newspaper interview in December 2007 that peace with Israel was possible.

Al-Miqdad is married with two daughters and one son.
