Faisal bin Shamlan

Faisal bin Schamlan ( Arabic فيصل بن شملان, DMG Faiṣal b. Šamlān ; * 1934 ; † January 1, 2010 in Aden ) was a Yemeni politician .

biography

Shamlan originally held several influential administrative positions under President Ali Abdullah Salih and was appointed Minister of Oil and Minerals in his cabinet in 1994.

In 2006 he was a joint candidate of the opposition United Assembly Parties (Joint Meeting Parties) in the presidential election and achieved 21.8 percent of the vote, but was clearly defeated by incumbent Salih, who achieved 77.2 percent of the vote.

Most recently he suffered from a brain tumor and after several months of hospitalization and surgery in India and Great Britain , he returned to Yemen only ten days before his death. Several thousand people attended the funeral in Aden under the leadership of leading politicians from the United Assembly Parties.
