The Falaise de Cordis (Eng. Cliff of Cordis) is a rock face near Marignac , about ten kilometers south of Pons in the Charente-Maritime department , France . It is located about 1.5 kilometers southwest of Marignac immediately north of the little-traveled D 146 road to Saint-Grégoire-d'Ardennes and Mosnac , on the north bank of the small river Trefle . The wall has been sanctioned by the Federation Francaise de la Montagne et de l'Escalade (FFME) as a climbing rock for technical climbing since 1998 and is also well suited for children to learn to climb.

Climbing rock

The limestone wall is around 100 m long and up to 25 m high and in part includes a former quarry that has left several caves or grottoes, but most of the climbing routes go over uncultivated rock. The limestone is hard, barely weathered, and full of holes. The equipment is modern and in good condition, with stabilizers . The wall faces southeast and is in the sun from morning to afternoon. Below the climbing wall is a flat meadow floor. A large parking lot directly on the street is available for visitors.

There are around 40 different vertical climbing routes on the very well secured wall, from 5 to 23 m in length, with degrees of difficulty according to the French scale from 4a to 7b.

Sectors

Left to right:

Sector 1: Initiation à l'escalade en tête . In this section furthest to the left, a little away from the main wall (access via a path to the left of the cliff, which also provides access to the caves with a cable), in the shade of the trees, there are four climbing routes of difficulty 5 and 5+, with a maximum height of 8 m.
Sector 2: Initiation à l'escalade en moulinette . This section, in the left part of the cliff face, contains six routes of difficulty levels 4 and 5. These climbs are the only ones equipped with top rope ; the stabilizers are located at a height of 5 m and are easily accessible.
Sector 3: Les Grottes . This sector, in the middle of the wall, has nine short (8 m high) and four long (maximum 23 m high) climbs with levels of difficulty from 5a to 7b. The access to the caves with two secured routes for technical climbing and abseiling (level of difficulty A0) is to the left of the rock face via the path secured with a cable.
Sector 4: La Grande Face . This section, in the middle and in the right part of the wall, has 12 long (maximum 23 m) ascent routes of grades 4c to 7a. Access to the rightmost routes is via a path.
