Fall of the Gray-Winged One is a drone-doom project founded by Stijn van Cauter since 2002 .
history
Stijn van Cauter initiated Fall of the Gray-Winged One as a different solo project.
While working on an album for the dark ambient project I Dream No More , van Cauter discovered Drone Doom for himself, was inspired by it and “experimented with the heavy, booming sound” he produced on the bass guitar . These experiments led to the publication under the band name Fall of the Gray-Winged One. The project was released on van Cauter's label Nulll Records . The debut Aeons of Dreams from 2002 was re-released in 2006 on the label of musician and new-right activist Alex Kurtagić Supernal Music . The album was harshly criticized and condemned as amateurish.
In 2011 van Cauter temporarily stopped producing other music. Although he has reactivated various projects since 2016, there was no resumption of activity with Fall of the Gray-Winged One for the time being.
style
The music played by Fall of the Gray-Winged One is attributed to Drone Doom . Van Cauter describes the music as a combination of Drone Doom "with some ambient and industrial elements". In a review of the debut, written for the Guts of Darkness webzine , it was said that the project was taking the minimalism he practiced in other projects to the extreme, almost completely doing without drums and vocals. The music is limited to drones and a few residual melodic elements.
