Wrong middle class

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

False middle class is the sociological term for occupational groups from the tertiary sector that hardly differ from the middle class in terms of their income and status, but feel that they belong to the middle classes and copy the behavior of the “old middle class”. The wrong middle class includes salespeople , waiters and chauffeurs .

The term was coined by Ralf Dahrendorf , who used it in connection with what was later called the Dahrendorf house. Dahrendorf emphasizes that the term already contains an element of criticism and judges: “Nobody defends medium-sized rights and interests more vocally than their problematic members. The contradiction between social position and self-confidence also makes this class a politically unstable category, the support of which no party can vote particularly self-assuredly. "
