Dahrendorfhäuschen

Dahrendorfhäuschen describes a social class model of the population of the then Federal Republic of Germany , which the German-British sociologist Ralf Dahrendorf presented in his book Society and Democracy in Germany in 1965 . Dahrendorf's structure is based on social mentalities and the function in the economic system and is therefore not a purely vertical arrangement like earlier shift models; the delimiting “house walls” are permeable and changeable.

The Dahrendorfhäuschen divided the West German population into seven strata, with the elite at the top (1%). The two bureaucratic helpers of the elite live next to each other: the service class (12%) and the middle class (20%). These include the false middle class (12%), which are mainly active in the service sector , the working class elite (5%), the working class (45%) and the lower class (5%).
