The islands around Cape Horn with False Cape Horn

The False Cape Horn ( Spanish Falso Cabo de Hornos ) is a headland on the Chilean island of Hoste . The False Cape Horn represents the southernmost point of the larger islands of the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago. The False Cape Horn belongs administratively to the Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena .

This headland got its name in the time of seafaring, when it was often confused with the "real" Cape Horn (56 kilometers further south-east). From the West via the Clipper route Ships coming in False Cape Horn saw the structure of the real Cape Horn, after which they - in the belief Drake Passage to reach - to the east to the Wollaston Islands zusegelten. Several ships sank as a result of this mistake.

The cape is located in the Alberto De Agostini National Park .
