Seam connections are used in many areas of technology. They are very common in the production of sheet metal air ducts that transport the heated or cooled air from air conditioning centers into the rooms. The machines most frequently used to produce the folds are fold formers , flanging machines and channel folding machines .

Snap lock connection

In order to close a connection point with a snap seam connection, a snap seam must be attached to one side of the sheet and a cam standing seam to the other side. The two folds are simply inserted into one another. The cams of the cam standing seam get caught in the small edge bend of the snap seam.

Channel fold connection

To produce a Kanalfalz connection using a Kanalfalzmaschine . The duct rebate is denser than the Pittsburgh rebate and snap joint connections that are otherwise used in air duct manufacture.

To close a joint with a Pittsburgh seam, a Pittsburgh seam must be attached to one side of the sheet and a standing seam to the other side. The two folds are inserted into each other and closed with a hammer or a seam locker .
