Langeoog island hospice

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The island hospice is a building on the German North Sea island of Langeoog .

Island hospice, around 1906

The hospice of the Loccum monastery (island hospice for short) located in the north of the island village was built in 1884/1885 near the beach. The inauguration and opening took place on June 20, 1885. It served as an inn for those looking for relaxation from the mainland, especially members of the monastery. Until 1927, the hospice ran the Langeoog spa. Due to the hotel-like operation, there was also a correspondingly large kitchen and supply building. Because it was used by members of the monastery, there was also a prayer room. Part of the building was used as a family vacation home. Since a major renovation in the 1990s, this is the only use of the building. The "Hospice of the Loccum Monastery" is therefore now run under the name of the family holiday home House Loccum Monastery .

In front of the hospice is the spacious hospice area with the hospice beacon at the southwest end .

A few meters east of the hospice area and north of the adjoining school camp is the so-called ice pond . Until 1945 it was used to make ice for the island hospice. The ice in the frozen pond was cut into pieces during the frosty periods and stored in the ice cellar of the island hospice in order to use it for cooling purposes in the warmer times.
