Fangelturm (Friedland)
The Fangelturm in Friedland (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) is a defensive tower of the city wall that used to surround the city.
The tower served as protection of the city in a north-westerly direction and secured the passage over the Datze . During the "bride war" between the Duchy of Pomerania and the Land of Stargard in 1453, the upper part of the tower was destroyed by a stone projectile from a blide and not rebuilt. Afterwards, as the name suggests, the tower was used as a prison tower.
In the years 1909–1911, the city of Friedland rebuilt the tower and installed a pressure vessel to use the structure as a water tower .
After years of vacancy, the fishing tower was reconstructed by the city in 1997 and converted into a lookout tower . Today the tower has a height of 35 m. 142 steps lead to its viewing platform, which is 27 m high.
