Fantasiebilder is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 64). The work was probably first performed on February 10, 1849 in Dommayers Casino in Hietzing (Vienna).

Remarks

The date of the work's premiere cannot be clearly documented. However, on February 10, 1849, a benefit concert by the Strauss Chapel took place in Dommayers Casino , and on this occasion the waltz, which was composed for the carnival season of 1849, could have been premiered. The mood in Vienna that season was already very bad and it also had an effect on Carnival. The reason was the events following the failed revolution of 1848 the previous year and the continuing uprisings in the border regions of the Danube monarchy. With the title Fantasiebilder the composer wanted to distract from this gloomy mood. The plant was not granted long-term success. It is unknown whether a printed version of the waltz was ever published. The CD recording mentioned below was rearranged on the basis of a surviving piano reduction for orchestra by Arthur Kulling (1926–2009).

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 12 minutes and 24 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
