The Farman F.20 was a French military aircraft .

development

The F.20 was a logical further development of the lattice-tail aircraft with pusher propellers developed by the brothers Henri and Maurice Farman since 1908 . In use during the First World War , however, these designs met with increasing rejection of the pilots, because the design with a pusher propeller initially allowed the machine to be easily armed, but at the same time the design could not carry any defensive armament due to the propeller towards the rear. With the introduction of synchronized machine guns, the advantage of simple equipment with attack weapons mounted in the bow finally disappeared.

Despite all the disadvantages, the F.20 was still widely used, it flew in the flying units of Belgium, France, Great Britain and Switzerland initially as a reconnaissance aircraft, later only as a training aircraft. Attempts to use the model as a light bomber resulted in significant losses, as a higher payload drastically reduced flight performance.
