Fiber break monitoring

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fiber break detection is a method for detecting a physical break in an optical fiber or a glass fiber .

The procedure

An optical light beam is emitted by at least one radiation device through a connectable optical conductor. Then at least one reflecting light beam is determined outside the optical guide means in order to form a measurement signal. The patent seeks to improve such a method and to provide a device to magnify the signals and capture them before use. This means that if you receive another disturbed signal in addition to the measurement signal, the leak outside the conductor is detected. This means damage to or breakdown of the optical conductor means or a functioning signal if damage or breakdown of the optical conductor means has been excluded. If the disturbed signal is detected, the radiation energy of the first radiation device is reduced to 35 mW , or the first radiation device is switched off.

patent

For this purpose, the European patent "Method and device for spatially extensive detection of operating states by means of laser reflectometry and high laser power" (EP 1440299) is used.
