The Fasnachts-Brunnen (also: Tinguely-Brunnen or Carnaval ) is a fountain created by the artist Jean Tinguely and is located on the Theaterplatz in the Swiss city ​​of Basel .

It was built between 1975 and 1977 on the site of the old, demolished city theater and was a gift from 50-year-old Migros to the city of Basel.

The fountain with ten machine sculptures in a large water basin, which are partly made of set pieces, i.e. H. Constructed from movable, relocatable parts of the former stage equipment of the city theater, shows the water features typical of Jean Tinguely. These are moved by low-voltage motors and spray fountains of water through the air.

The ten sculptures have the following names:

  • dr theater head - the theater head
  • d'Spinne - the spider
  • dr Waggler - the wobbler
  • d'Fontääne - the fountain
  • dr splash - the splash
  • dr Suuser - the madman
  • dr Wäädel - the frond
  • dr Schuufler - the Schaufler
  • s'Seechter - the sieve
  • dr Querpfyffer - the transverse flute
