Fater (or Faterikus ) was the 1st abbot of Kremsmünster Abbey .

Life

Fater was the first abbot of Kremsmünster Abbey. He was personally appointed by Duke Tassilo of Bavaria as abbot of the monastery founded in 777. He came from the Niederaltaich monastery and administered the office until 799.

This is documented in the deed of foundation of the Kremsmünster monastery, which says:

... because I founded a monastery on the river, called Krems, in honor of the Savior, and dedicated it to God and to whom I gave at the inauguration what I was able to do, as we note here. I have also appointed an abbot, named Fater, with the monks assigned to him, so that those who live in the venerable place mentioned lead a regular life. ... "
