Early years

Matiz was born in 1985 in Erdemli, Turkey, in the south of Turkey and grew up there. His father worked as a truck driver, his mother was a housekeeper. Matiz completed his school education in Erdemli; he completed this with a secondary school certificate. After graduating from school in 2003, Matiz completed a degree in dentistry at Istanbul University , which he finished in 2008. In mid-2011, Matiz began a second degree at İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi , which he completed in 2014 with a master’s degree.

Musical career

Matiz discovered his love for music during his studies. He learned to play the guitar and also took singing lessons. In addition to his student days, Matiz composed his own little pieces, some of which he later published on the MySpace platform .

In 2009, a year after completing his studies, Matiz met producer Engin Akıncı. At Akıncı's suggestion, Matiz sang several songs in his recording studio, which both of them then put together to form an album. The completed studio album, titled Mabel Matiz, contains five songs and was released on May 11, 2011.

About two years later, on January 5, 2013, the second album Yaşım Çocuk was released. During the production of the studio album, Matiz worked with numerous Turkish artists and producers, including Can Güngör, Cihan Mürtezaoğlu, Mete Özgencil and Yıldız Tilbe . The two songs Zor Değil and Aşk Yok Olmaktır reached high positions in the Turkish charts.

In June 2013, Matiz brought out a cover version of Sultan Süleyman , a song by the poet Aysel Gürel , who died in 2008 . This song only appeared as a track on the tribute album Aysel'in , which was dedicated to Gürel after her death. In early 2014, Matiz received a Turkey Music Award and a Radio Boğaziçi Music Award in the “Best Cover Version” category. At the end of the year, the Turkish men's magazine GQ Türkiye honored the singer with a Men Of The Year award for "Artist of the Year".

On July 14, 2014, the collaboration album Alaimisema and the single of the same name were released as a radio edit.

In mid-February 2015 the artist presented his third studio album Gök Nerede . Matiz was largely involved in writing the lyrics and in the production of the individual songs. With around 39,000 units sold, it is the singer's most successful album to date. The two songs Gel and Bir Hadise Var each reached number one in the Turkish top ten charts.

With Ya Bu İşler Ne and Öyle Kolaysa , Matiz presented the first and only single releases of his fourth studio album Maya . It initially appeared as a digital download version on the Turkish music platform Zoom Music . On June 21, 2018, the DMC Müzik label released the album in CD format. Musically it has synthpop influences from trap, disco and folk. Matiz later stated in an interview that he dedicated the album to his mother and named it Maya in her honor .
