Selda Bagcan

Selda Bağcan (* 1948 in Muğla ) is a Turkish singer and guitarist of Turkish folk music and Özgün Müzik .

Life

She was born the daughter of a Macedonian veterinarian and a Crimean Tatar teacher. In 1971, she successfully completed her studies at the Fen Faküllei University in Ankara . In the same year she brought her album Katip Arzuhalim Yaz Yare Böyle / Mapusanede Mermerden Direk on the market, which sold more than a million times. She gave successful concerts in Turkey and Germany. In 1972 she represented Turkey at the Bulgarian Altin Orfey Music Festival . She also gave concerts for various left parties. She was arrested during the military coup on September 12, 1980 , but released a short time later. She was arrested again on April 24, 1984 and held in prison.

In 1986 she took part in the “World of Dances and Music Festival” with the support of Peter Gabriel . She performed several times abroad, for example in Rotterdam , London and other cities in Western Europe.

In 1990 she gave a concert for the Rasa Organization (Interkultureel Centrum) in the Netherlands. In the same year she also played in Yugoslavia, in Prizren and Pristina . In 2000 Selda Bağcan was on her way to a concert in Hatay . On the way there was a car accident in which Selda Bağcan was seriously injured. She then paused for two years. In 2002 she got in touch with her album Ben Geldim ("I came"). Selda Bağcan is one of the most important Turkish folk singers in Turkey; she also worked with Ahmet Kaya for years . Her song Uğurlar Olsun ("Goodbye"), which is dedicated to the murdered journalist Uğur Mumcu , is particularly popular to this day.

One of her best-known songs İnce İnce Bir Kar Yağar ("It snows fine and small") was in 2009 on the song Supermagic by the American hip-hop musician Mos Def and in 2015 on the song Issues by American hip -Hop musician Dr. Dre sampled. In addition, part of the song was used as an interpolation in the 2011 song Tek Başına Dans by the Turkish rock singer Teoman .
