Fatma Altinok (born March 1, 1926 in Turkey ) is a German teacher.

Life

The doctor's wife lived in Ankara with her family until 1961 . After a year in Berlin, she came to Koblenz in 1963. At first she looked after the children of " guest workers " in homework help. From 1971 to 1989 she was employed by the Koblenz district government as a teacher for Turkish at schools in the Koblenz area. In addition, she gave seminars for Turkish teachers in the State Institute for Teacher Training in Speyer . In 1982 Altınok became a founding member and first chairwoman of the integrative association Merhaba . She later became honorary chairman. On May 24, 1983, Federal President Karl Carstens presented her with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

Altinok, who spoke no German at the time of her immigration, was soon seen in the Koblenz area as a contact person for Turkish issues and as a “bridge” between German and Turkish society. The current mayor of Koblenz, Joachim Hofmann-Göttig, counts her as one of the area's "leading migration experts". Today Altinok is a member of the Koblenz Seniors' Council.
