The association pugilist Köln-Kalk 1951 e. V. was founded in 1951 and is a boxing club from Cologne that has produced numerous German and Turkish champions, including European and world champions among amateurs. The club is a member of the German Boxing Association .

Focus and objective

The focus of the association's work is currently the social integration of young people. The pugilists have 2 training halls. The main location is now in Cologne-Ehrenfeld on the left bank of the Rhine . But a training opportunity is still offered in Cologne-Kalk . The association currently has around 200 members from 17 different nations. The club offers training for competition boxers in Olympic boxing as well as fitness boxing for everyone .

On December 14, 1951 the association was founded by Heinz Abels, Toni Fischer, Manfred Scheuermann, Willi Decker, Rudolf Linser, Hubert Helfer, Peter Schultes, Michael Schultes, H. Ulli Rhode, Adi Sauer, Karl Abels, Josef Tönnes, Klaus Fillebrand and Matthias Brand. In the following years, the team grew into a unit under the coach Heinz Abels. Middle Rhine masters emerged. One of the amateurs was Jupp Elze, who later switched to the professional camp. In 1972 a fighting community was formed with BC West in order to be able to take part with athletes in the newly founded boxing league. 1976 was a 25th anniversary and title year for the pugilists Werner Schmitz (German youth champion), Prokolo Tello (WABV youth champion) and Stefan Wittling (MABV master). The youngsters continued their successes in the following years: Veli Cevik (WABV youth champion), Horst Ranzingen (MABV and West German junior runner-up), 1977 Ewalt Arlt (German junior runner-up), 1979 Peter Offermann (German junior runner-up) and 1980 Jörg Bonn (German youth champion)

In 1981 Ali Cakir, social worker for the city of Cologne and Turkish national coach, joined the Kalk team and trained foreign athletes in the Quäkerheim and integrated them into the club. 11 nations were represented in the training operation. Alfred Sauer directed the fortunes and was nicknamed the "Turkish Father". In the following years, district, Middle Rhine and West German championship titles were won. B. Robert Siwak, Jörg Bonn, Michael Sokic, Kalli Bulduk. The clubs Boxclub Westen, SC Colonia and the pugilists again founded a fighting community to be able to participate in the upper league. Second place was achieved in the first year.

In the 1990s, losses had to be accepted, Jupp Tönnes (1st chairman), Dieter Becker (2nd chairman), Adi and Hans Sauer died. Alfred Sauer took over and led the club to new strength. He was also known as a referee (international license) across borders. He received support from coaches Jacob Gilles, Karl-Heinz Kunkel, Ali Cakir, Manfred Wagner, Mohammet Gassa, Michael Pütz and Mehmet Aksu, all of whom are volunteers. In 1991 Alfred Sauer received the association's golden ring of honor for his commitment. He was previously awarded the Golden Badge of Honor of the MABV and the DABV for his services to German amateur boxing. He also received the Federal Cross of Merit. This is followed by champions and runners-up in the youth, juniors and senior classes. these included Ali Aksu, Hakan Aksu, Mehmet Aksu, Ahmet Aksu, Alexander Loidl, Cengiz Yilmaz, Robert Soda-Cotic, Kalli Bulduk, Samir Chamoun and Jony Chamoun, Mehmet Hendem, Kashif Butt, Thomas Vahrenholt, Stefan Worth, René Krause.

In 1995 Dieter Pfös was elected 1st chairman. Under the direction of Fred Sauer and Dieter, the club went up in terms of sport and women's boxing was particularly encouraged. The athletes Wendi Breuer, Gülay Killic, Hülya Sahin and Fikriye Selen had their first successes. Sahin was two-time European Cup winner and European champion. She was multiple Turkish champion and became an amateur world champion. Finally she switched to the professionals and defended her world title there several times. Selen was twice European Cup winner and twice European champion. Killic became Turkish champion. In the following years, Heike Gehlen was particularly successful for the pugilists and was twice German runner-up. In the men's category, Ahmet Aksu became the international German junior champion, the Turkish national boxer and fought for fourth place at the youth world championships in Hungary. René Krause became vice world champion for cadets in Hungary. Petrit Dobroshi was German elite middleweight champion in 2000 and 2001. He won bronze at the military championships. Mehmet Hendem was several times West German champion, won several titles in Turkey, was in the Turkish national relay and took part in tournaments in Russia, Ireland and Spain. As a professional, he became the International German Cruiserweight Champion.

In 2007 Mehmet Hendem (trainer), Mehmet Aksu (trainer) and Daniela Otten (special education teacher and referee) initiated. the project "Kids for future". The pugilists made the integration and promotion of children and adolescents from hot spots in Cologne a priority and offered an individualized sporting support in the free training time provided by Rolf Worthoff in the “Worthoff Gym” on Gustav-Nachtigal-Straße school advice and support. The youth department won several Middle Rhine championship titles in 2009 and Hüssein Günaydin was West German champion. In 2010 the “Kids for future” training group was successful. Taylan Demirel is the reigning German youth champion. Yakup Baktikar and Harun Cakmak took third place in the German junior championship "Kids for future" and won the Cologne honorary award. Alfred Sauer was appointed honorary referee of the DBV.

In 2011 kids for future won the Rhineland Integration Prize of the Rhineland Provincial Foundation with Felix Sturm . This prize is endowed with 25,000 euros. In 2012, Emre Birekul, from kids for future, won the silver medal at the International German Youth Championship in Wittenberg.
