The armchair (of French fauteuil , from Old French faudestuel or medieval Latin faldistolium ) in German and armchair, Lehn chair called or armchairs, is an upholstered seating with armrests , which was especially in the 17th or 18th century fashion.

The term armchair is also used as a name for armchairs made of bentwood (including products made by the Thonet brothers ).

In Austria and German-speaking Switzerland , Fauteuil generally means armchair , while an armchair in Austria is the same as a chair in Germany .
