Róża karnawałowa

Faworki also - Chrusty or Chruściki , Kreple , dt. Rader cake called - are a traditional Polish donuts that in the Polish kitchen during the Shrovetide is made. The baked goods are in the form of loops of dough that are sprinkled with powdered sugar after baking. It bears a strong resemblance to the Rhenish hats .

Faworki are made from cream dough, a variation of shortcrust pastry . Cream is added and worked into the shortcrust pastry, which should contain a lot of eggs and only a little fat and sugar . To let the faworki rise and to prevent excessive fat intake, primate fuel or vinegar is added. The dough must be kneaded for a long time and intensively and then rest. Then it is rolled out very thinly and cut into 10–15 cm long diamonds, from which loops are then made, which are fried in hot fat.

A similar specialty is the Róża karnawałowa ("Carnival Rose "). For this purpose, three round cookies of decreasing size are punched out of the same dough and notched on the edges. You press the dough cookies together in the middle so that they rise together in the hot fat to form a rose petal-like structure. Sour cherry or rose hip jam is placed in the chalice of the rose and sprinkled with powdered sugar.

The name of the pastry, "Faworki", refers to an expression adopted from French and adapted to Polish , namely the name for colored ribbons and bows that were attached to knights by their ladies in the Middle Ages and later exchanged among lovers ( faveurs or rubans faveur ). Faworki are also common in Lithuanian and Belarusian cuisine. In the USA they are also known - along with the related Polish specialty pączki . They are called there and Angel Wings ( "angel wings") or Favors .
