The fencing club Göppingen is a sports club that has focused exclusively on saber fencing . It is one of the most successful fencing clubs in Germany and has so far won numerous medals at world, European and German championships.
history
The association looks back on over 40 years of tradition. The fencing club Göppingen was founded in 1970 by Heiner Kaldschmidt and his wife Maria Kaldschmidt and seven other founding members. At the beginning the focus was on the fencing weapons foil and rapier. In the late 1980s, the club was taken over by Horst Dumke, one of the most successful saber fencers in the GDR , as trainer and sports technical director. Under his leadership, the club specialized in saber fencing and numerous titles were won at world, European and German championships. The greatest success was Christian Geiger's world championship title with the German national junior team.
