particularities |
Nicholson Lake is a lake in eastern part of the Northwest Territories in Canada . It is near the Nunavut border, halfway between Great Slave Lake and Hudson Bay .
The circular lake is about 10 km in diameter with a larger island in its center and an even larger peninsula in the western part of the lake. Immediately south of the lake is Markham Lake , over which the Dubawnt River flows. At the northeast end of the lake, the Dubawnt River leaves Nicholson Lake again and flows to the much larger Dubawnt Lake, 40 km away, and further towards Hudson Bay .
The lake lies in an impact crater whose original diameter is estimated to be 12.5 km and its age to be less than 400 million years (in Devonian ). The crater is not visible on the surface.
