Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia ( German  National Association of Coffee Growers of Colombia , FNC ) is a Colombian interest and professional organization based in Bogotá . It deals with the concerns and the representation of more than half a million Colombian coffee producers - both nationally and internationally.

In 2017, its members produced a total of 14.2 million bags of high-quality coffee , almost 13 million of which were for export alone, weighing 60 kilograms. The organization is led by the economist Roberto Vélez Vallejo as managing director.

history

The coffee plant is, apart from the coca plant , the most important and most profitable agricultural product in Colombia. In 1927 the Colombian coffee growers decided to set up an organization that would represent them nationally and internationally. So the National Association of Coffee Growers of Colombia (FNC) was born, which is now one of the largest agricultural NGOs in the world. The FNC works non-profit and is politically independent.

organization

Since 1927 the FNC has been the main body in Colombia's agriculture , with a presence in all rural areas where coffee is produced . The work of the association revolves around the coffee farmers and their families and aims to ensure that Colombian coffee is grown in a sustainable way, common interests are strengthened within the coffee growing communities and Café de Colombia in the USA and also in the European Union as a registered test mark and trademark is positioned.

Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia represents more than 540,000 coffee-growing families, has a democratic structure and a union structure to make and enforce the necessary decisions relating to cultivation and marketing. The jointly developed priorities are exclusively for the common good of the coffee farmers and their families. The most important goal is to improve the quality of life for coffee producers. The FNC is also involved in research, which helps optimize production costs and coffee quality. Regulation is used to maximize the marketing of the harvested coffee and optimize the sales price.
