The Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations (FOSFA) is an association of producers, traders, transporters and supervisors in the global trade in oils, oil seeds and fats. FOSFA creates templates for contracts that reflect the experience of the active in the trade and should therefore be optimally tailored to their requirements. In addition to these contracts and the test and acceptance regulations required for trading, arbitration and arbitration in disputes are also offered. The FOSFA contracts are not based on the UN Sales Convention and even exclude legal recourse as long as the arbitration within the framework of the FOSFA has not yet been concluded.

FOSFA claims that 85% of all global trading activity is traded under FOSFA contracts. While FOSFA contracts dominate the overseas trade in oilseeds, in German trade the standard conditions for the German grain trade , in Austria the customs of the stock exchange for agricultural products in Vienna , Part A general provisions and Part B special provisions for the trade in individual goods as well as in Switzerland used the customs of the Swiss grain exchange.

history

After the discovery of margarine production , oil mills were set up in English ports, some of which formed the Linseed Association as early as 1863 . The aim of this organization was to set standards in retail. Later followed standards for additives, fees, etc., which they published in the contract documents. In 1891 the Linseed Association was renamed the Incorporated Oils Seeds Association (IOSA). In 1971 the IOSA merged with three other organizations, the London Oil and Tallow Trades Association (founded 1910), the London Copra Association (founded 1913) and the Seed, Oil, Cake and General Produce Association (founded 1935) and formed the FOSFA.

Effect and publications

When the World Food Organization (FAO) makes decisions, the FOSFA acts as an advisory body. For example, the FOSFA regulations for tank cleaning for (food) oil transports are taken over by the FOA. FOSFA contract templates are also the most important basis for palm oil contracts in the European palm oil trade.

The association publishes information in the FOSFA Circular (circular) the members. These are published quarterly, at the end of March, June, September and December and, if necessary, additionally.
