The Federazione Italiana Nuoto ( FIN ) ( German  "Italian Swimming Association" ) is the national association of swimming in Italy . FIN was founded on August 14, 1899 in Como , northern Italy , and is now based in Rome . It is divided into regional committees to which more than 1200 clubs belong. The tasks of the FIN include the organization of competitions, the promotion of popular sport and the training and further education of swimmers and coaches.

Within the National Olympic Committee CONI , the FIN is the professional association for the Olympic swimming sports swimming , water jumping , synchronized swimming , water polo and open water swimming . In addition, lifeguarding is of particular importance in the so-called rescue section (sezione salvamento) , which is a non-profit water rescue organization within the FIN and as such is involved in civil protection.

The FIN is a member of the European swimming federation LEN ( Ligue Européenne de Natation ) and the world swimming federation FINA ( Fédération Internationale de Natation Amateur ) as well as the Mediterranean swimming federation COMEN (Confederation Mediterranéenne de Natation) and the Latin swimming federation COLAN (Confederación Latina de Natación). Through the rescue section, it also belongs to the International Life Saving Federation (ILS) and the International Life Saving Federation of Europe (ILS-E).

In addition to the FIN, there is also the Federazione Italiana Nuoto Paralimpico (FINP) in Italy , which takes on relevant tasks in disabled sports and is the professional association within the National Paralympic Committee of Italy in swimming sports . With regard to lifeguarding, in addition to the rescue section of the FIN, the Società Nazionale di Salvamento (SNS) and the Federazione Italiana Salvamento Acquatico (SIS / FISA) are important national water rescue organizations .
