The Federazione Italiana Rugby ( FIR ) is responsible for all male and female rugby teams in Italy , in particular for the Super 10 professional league .

history

The first Italian rugby team was the US Milanese, founded in 1909. The FIR was founded in Italy on September 28, 1928, and the first national tournament began on February 2, 1929, in which six teams took part. On October 19 of the same year the CONI (Olympic National Committee of Italy) dissolved the FIR and took over all its tasks. On March 19, 1930, the FIGC (Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio) was responsible for the management of the rugby organization, which was then again run autonomously by the FIPO (Federazione Italiana Palla Ovale) two years later. On June 1, 1933, FIPO took over its former name FIR again

Today, the Italian men 's national rugby union team is considered the sixth strongest team in Europe behind France , England , Ireland , Scotland and Wales . She has participated in the Six Nations tournament every year since 2000 .
